Outdoor game in Białowieża Forest — In the Footsteps of the Forest Guardians

The outdoor game in the Bialowieza Forest is one of the original attractions at Dwor Bartnika, available to groups and guests of the hotel.

Nine trials, around ten kilometres of forest and one phone per team. The game opens in a browser — nothing to install, you just open a link. From the shooting range, through bee trees hidden in trunks and the monument to “Inka”, to the Jewish cemetery in Narewka: every point brings a task, a photo and a question. The host scores answers as you go, so the ranking keeps changing along the route. At the finish line, back at Dwor Bartnika, each team is given a title — from Apprentice of the Forest to Master Guardian.

How it works

  1. Start: the Warrior's Trial

    The first points are scored at the airsoft range, before anyone has a chance to get cold. A photo of the target goes straight into the app, and after the very first stage you can already see who came here to win.

  2. Nine trials, ten kilometres

    Forest roads and the streets of Narewka. Natural bee trees, the sundial at the Herbarium, the monument to “Inka”, the Jewish cemetery, the Tamara Soloniewicz gallery. Every place has its trial: of the Beekeeper, of Time, of Courage, of Memory, of the Artist. Navigation leads from point to point, so nobody has to handle a map in gloves.

  3. Task, photo, bonus

    At every stage the team completes a photo task, answers a question about what they see, and takes on a bonus question — sometimes about knowledge, sometimes about what the place makes you feel. 20 points per stage, 180 across the whole route.

  4. And finally: the results gala

    Photos and answers from the route go up on screen before dinner. Previous groups have been known to keep coming back late into the evening to the one shot that cost them the win.

Nine trials

The route is a loop starting and finishing at Dwor Bartnika. The stages lead from the shooting range deep into the forest and back through Narewka.

  4. Herbarium and sundial

    Trial of Time

    A clock that counts only the hours the sun can see.

  5. The “Inka” monument

    Trial of Courage

    A memorial to Danuta Siedzikowna on the Narewkowska Road.

  6. Bison Safari

    Trial of the Observer

    The feeding site where herds of bison gather in winter.

  7. The Jewish cemetery in Narewka

    Trial of Memory

    A trace of the community that lived here before the war.

The last trial is called the Trial of Community. After ten kilometres of forest, nobody needs to explain to the team why.

Questions and answers

How long does the outdoor game take?
Around three to four hours. The walk itself is a little over two hours, plus nine stages with tasks.
How long is the route?
Around ten kilometres, in a loop starting and finishing at Dwor Bartnika. Roughly four and a half kilometres run along forest roads, the rest along the Narewkowska Road and the streets of Narewka.
How many people can take part?
Up to four teams play at once. Team size is up to you — we have had teams of four and of twenty.
Do we need to install anything?
No. The game opens in your phone browser, all you need is the link. One charged phone per team is enough.
Is the game available in winter?
Yes, it runs all year. The route looks its best in winter, but it is worth setting off early, as dusk starts falling around three.
Will we see bison?
The route passes the feeding site where herds gather in winter. There is no guarantee — these are wild animals — but the chance is real.
Is the game suitable for children?
Yes, assuming the child can walk ten kilometres. The tasks are photographic and observational and require no specialist knowledge.
